The experimental researches on the problem of breeding of competitive varieties of potato, used for chips processing, were conducted on the fields of the Department of Technologies in Crop Production of Lviv National Agrarian University. For the crossing, the researchers used such varieties as Granola, Naroch, Karpatskyi, as well as Mavka and Halychyna varieties, created on their base. Among the seedlings, obtained from crossing of Mavka × Naroch varieties, the researchers selected the hybrid 322-92, called Kniazha, which was submitted to the state testing of varieties in 2017.

In 2018–2019, the Kniazha variety was delivered to the Limited liability Company «Ago LV Limited» in Lviv region, Kamianka-Buzka district, for industrial testing. At that company, four chips varieties, i.e. Lady Kler, Pirol, Kibits, Arsenal, are grown. The average result of the two-year experiment demonstrates that the new promising Kniazha variety supplies the highest yield among the studied varieties. The average yield of tubers with diameter > 40 mm accounted for 67.7 t/ha that was by 13.5 t/ha more than the Lady Kler variety and by 9.7 t/ha more than the Pirol variety (НІР05 – 2.5).

The conducted analysis of obtained data argues that one of the Kniazha variety properties is that it secures a high yield of tubers regardless of weather conditions during the year. Although the yield of other varieties heavily variated during the years, the Kniazha variety supplied a relatively high yield in both years of the experiment.

In the laboratory of the Limited liability Company «Agro LV Limited», the researchers made testing of chips production of the tubers of the Kniazha variety potato, which demonstrated positive results.

In 2019, the sample of the Kniazha variety was submitted to the laboratory of the Limited liability Company «Chips LUKS» to determine the tuber suitability for chips making. The quality of potato tubers was assessed according to their external appearance, color of pulp, specific weight, content of dry matters, and other indicators.  The indices of the tuber quality and particularly the share of dry matters in the Kniazha variety (24.8 %) secured a high outcome of products, and a perfect quality of crispy potato.
