Annotation

The article emphasizes that the countries of the world face the task of creating such a food supply in which the population of the planet will be able to meet their own food needs in sufficient quantities. Ukraine, with its resources, should not stand aside from this problem. Due to the existing high demand for agricultural products on the world market, Ukraine has a significant chance to occupy an important place among the world leaders in exporting agricultural products. However, the situation in the agricultural sector of Ukraine indicates a low level of efficiency of economic entities.

The economic essence of the concept of «food security» and its components are highlighted and the state of food security in the world and in Ukraine is reflected. There are a number of main reasons that generate and accelerate the global food crisis. It was found out that the problem of food security is relevant for Ukraine today, because, agricultural production has decreased significantly as a result of ill-considered reforms in the agricultural sector during the years of independence. Therefore, the priority task of the state is to solve the problem of food security while preserving and restoring the ecology of the environment and the rational use of the main natural factor of agricultural production, i.e. land. After all, Ukraine is among the twenty largest countries in the world with the richest soils. It is substantiated that the reform of the agricultural sector of the country should consist of the possibility of free development of business activity on rural areas, introduction of innovations in production, expansion of social infrastructure and independent development of rural areas.

It is proposed to create conditions for full development of the agricultural sector to strengthen food security as a component of national security, one of which is the smooth access of farmers to sources of financing and interest-free lending, for example, to cover the costs of low-profit livestock products.
