Annotation

The article presents results of the research on the impact of agricultural crops on soil compaction at different depth. It is determined that the value of compaction is optimal for development of plant root system in the spring period under the workability of soil. The authors stress on the increase of compaction on the autumn-plowed land plots comparing to the soil under winter wheat, winter rape, and break crops like spring vetch and oilseed radish. The lowest indices of soil compaction were marked in the variant of winter wheat, i.e. 4.0 kgf/cm2 (0,39 MPa) on average. There was no great difference between the soil compaction under spring vetch and wild radish. The factor of variation of the soil compaction at different depth of dark-grey podzolic soil was equal to 0.33–0.86 %.

The methods of recording of the indices of soil fertility influence the accuracy of interpolation. It is obvious that an increase of the number of tests contributes to the increase of data representativeness, whereas needs more expenses for the research fulfilment. Determination of the spatial heterogeneity of soil compaction was performed on the field of crop rotation area of 26 ha. The demonstration trail was divided into elementary plots of the area of 1 and 5 ha with consideration of the contours of heterogeneity (topography, degree of outwash, vegetation index). The figures of compaction, determined by the heterogeneous zones, were similar when the area of an elementary plot in the regular grid was equal to 1 ha. The difference between the arithmetical mean made only 7.2 %, whereas comparing to the index, obtained by the method of regular grid of 5 ha, it was 11.3 %. According to different applied methods, the spatial heterogeneity of soil compaction was almost the same and equaled 49–54 %. Under such variability, it is more effective to use the measures of differentiated soil treatment in the system of precision agriculture.

Key words

soil compaction, soil heterogeneity, precision agriculture, winter wheat, winter rape, break crop
