Annotation

The creation of new varieties, and, accordingly, the efficiency of selection process, largely depends on the variety of the source material and it is practically impossible without the use of samples having economically valuable traits. The source of such traits is world collections of cultivated plants. The results of the study of collection samples of white clover at the Institute of Agriculture of the Carpathian region NAAS are presented in the article. The studies were conducted in the soil and climatic conditions of Peredkarpattya during 2017–2018. The value of white clover as one of the most important pasture perennial legume is given. The questions of studying, preservation and use of samples of its gene pool in selection work are given. The main valuable and economic traits are investigated: forage and seed productivity, plant height, length of inflorescence stalk, diameter of inflorescence, the duration of vegetative period, resistance to diseases (powdery mildew). On the basis of received data a trait collection of white clover for yield and precocity was formed and submitted for registration to the National Centre for Plant Genetic Resources of Ukraine. The collection includes 31 samples from 5 countries (Ukraine, Lithuania, Russia, Sweden, Germany). For the purpose of further studying and organizing the genetic diversity of this plant, the evaluation of the spectrum of manifestations of traits among the studied samples has identified sample standards with different levels of manifestation of traits and sources of economically valuable traits, the use of which will contribute to increasing the efficiency of selection work with white clover.
