Annotation

The work studies importance of potato as one of the main food products for people on the Earth. Particular attention is paid to importance of disease-resistant (immune) varieties as an essential factor for growing of ecologically safe products of potato growing. The article presents results of the experimental research in 2016–2017. In the process of the experiment, the researchers used 10 new hybrids of potato of different groups of biological ripening, created at Lviv NAU. Initial paternal forms of the hybrids included the following varieties of potato of Ukrainian selection, particularly Borodianska pink, Volia, Dublianska jubilee, Hybrid 14, Lishchyna, Lvivianka, Povin, Svitanok Kyiivskyi, Student, and of foreign selection – Nevska (Russia), Sante (Netherland), Pamir (Germany). The following varieties were used as standards, particularly Vodohrai variety – for the medium-early group, Volia variety – for the medium-ripe group, Zakhidna variety – for the medium-late group.

Some new-created hybrids of potato, chosen for breeding (medium-early 11/15-12 [Zakhidna × (Borodianska pink × Oksamyt)], medium-ripe 11/6-15 [Volia × H. 374-66 (Hybrid 14 × Lvivianka)], 11/2-6 [(Svitanok Kyiivskyi × Pamir) × (Zakhidna × Povin)] and 11/24-29 [(Svitanok Kyiivskyi × Pamir) × (Zakhidna × Povin)], medium-late 11/6-20 [Volia × H. 374-66 (Hybrid 14 × Lvivianka)], demonstrate increased and high resistance to the most dangerous diseases – at the level of 6–8 grades according to the International 9-grade scale. It will help reducing of chemical agents for plant protection, supporting obtaining of ecologically safe products and reduction of pesticide load on the environment and agrobiocenosis.

In the group of medium-early forms, high yields of 40–45 tons per hectare was demonstrated by the hybrids 02/65-23 (Zov × Nevska) and 11/17-7 [(Student х Sante) х Dublianska jubilee]. In the group of medium-ripe forms, the hybrids with potential yield of tubers above 50 and 60 tons per hectare (Volia × Lishchyna), 11/2-6 [(Svitanok Kyiivskyi × Pamir) × (Zakhidna × Povin)], 11/6-15 [Volia × H. 374-66 (Hybrid 14 × Lvivianka)] were marked as prospective ones. In the group of medium-late forms, the hybrid 11/6-20 [Volia × H. 374-66 (Hybrid 14 × Lvivianka)] with potential yield capacity above 50 tons per hectare was chosen for the further breeding work.

The new-created hybrids of potato will be subjected to the further breeding work in the following year in accordance with the scheme and methods of a definite crop selection.

Key words

potato, selection, resistant to late blight, prospective hybrids, ecologically safe products of potato growing
