Annotation

Stained glass as an art has a long history and now we can say with confidence about its new revival. Today, stained glass is used in its main functions such as filling window openings more and more rarely. It is often used as an additional element to decorate the interiors of residential and public spaces. Moreover, similarly to many centuries ago, stained-glass windows continue to be a semantic ornament in temples.

Stained glass is an ornamental or plot composition made of pieces of glass, usually multicolored, connected by metal ties, designed for through lighting.

The article also talks about importance of the stained glass in the interior decoration of living spaces. Due to its transparency, stained glass allows using environment as a part of interior design, making the space more emotional and open.

Modern stained glass perfectly combines new technologies, the latest design developments and ancient masters' traditions. It creates a holistic composition, which is interesting with fashion themes, characteristics and motifs.

The modern basic techniques of stained-glass windows are analyzed and characterized in the article. Here is also classification of types of stained-glass windows and the main features, which are the base for using such constructions. In addition to traditional techniques of stained-glass production, new ones were invented, so nowadays designers have greater possibilities for creation original things.

The purpose of stained glass use is diverse. Traditionally, stained glass is used in the design of windows, doors, niches. But today such bright and spectacular decorative technique is also used to decorate interiors, lighting fixtures and furniture. Modern stained glass is designed for artificial lighting, which has greatly expanded the possibilities of its application in architecture.

The rich, deep and inexhaustible history of stained glass art allows artist-designers to make experiment and develop unconventional approaches of making the glass plane compositions. Compared to traditional stained glass technologies, modern ones are more economical, easier to manufacture and at the same time do not lose their aesthetic value.
