Annotation

The experience of other countries as well as a small but already existing experience of producers in Ukraine confirms that development of niche agriculture is applied not only to crops. It is not less intense in the animal husbandry branches, but in those branches, which can be called fully unconventional. For small producers, niche agriculture is particularly attractive because production of traditional agricultural products in such farms does not allow to withstand the requirements of technological processes and ensures a sufficient level of profitability, and even more so - to organize a profitable sale of manufactured products due to its small volumes, and even in the actual absence of cooperation in the sector of this category of producers. In addition, a large number of niche products secures a wide diversity of the areas of the branch and thus, to insure themselves against possible risks inherent in traditional crops and the corresponding narrow specialization in them. Niche production also significantly increases the level of employment in rural areas, as it requires additional job positions due to the relatively higher level of labor intensity of niche products. In the field of animal husbandry, the niche direction has been developed relatively recently, but today it is quite diversified. The main types of niche animal products, the production of which is currently practiced in Ukraine: production of snails, oysters, frogs, snakes, quails, worms, ducks, ostriches, milk and meat and cheese form sheep («brynza») and goats, horses («kumys»), buffaloes, etc. The given examples of niche animal business, conducted in Ukraine, testify to its high efficiency.

The niche direction of livestock development is constrained by the same barriers that are characteristic for the crop sector – lack of experience, lack of coordination and cooperation, of such products consumption proper culture. It is not accompanied by the appropriate scientific and information-advisory support and support of the state. Actually, the main factor that could significantly dynamize the development of niche agriculture, including animal husbandry, in modern conditions, there could be real state support in such problems solved by the manufacturers of such products by promoting development of the system for the necessary information providing and exchanging, increasing the level of availability of loans, advisory and information services establishment, the appropriate direction of consulting, ie, creation of at least to some extent favorable conditions and culture of consumption of niche products.
