Annotation

The scientific article examines the dynamics of the main stages of development and studies the harm the Colorado potato beetle made in 2018–2019 on the middle-ripe potato Volia, selected at Lviv National Agrarian University.

It is noted that violation of the scientifically-argued systems of plants protection from pests is one of the one of the main causes of low yields. The Colorado potato beetle is the most dangerous for potatoes, making enormous damage to the yield of that crop.

It is argued that climatic conditions and unlimited forage base of the Western region of Ukraine are favorable for the development of the Colorado potato beetle, so its number on potato plants stays constantly high.

The authors of the research mark relevance of the system of potato protection, which provides a complex of methods on reducing the pest population by developing appropriate measures. It is stated that the chemical method of regulation of the number of Colorado potato beetle, which is based on the use of specialized drugs – insecticides, is the most effective modern means of crop protection.

The research determines biological efficiency of such insecticides as Mospilan 20 SP, Biscaya 240 OD, Kohinor 200 SL. The highest index of decrease of the number and population larvae on potato plants was observed when applying the agent Kohinor at the recommended norm of 0.2 l/ha.

The work substantiates the influence of insecticide spraying on production of high and permanent potato yields. The highest yield (302.1 c/ha) was obtained in the variant where the spraying was performed with Kohinor, at a rate of 0.2 l/ha. The use of the insecticides minimizes the high potential harm, made by the Colorado potato beetle. The lack of chemical protection increases the size and aggressiveness of the phytophagus and significantly reduces the potato tubers yield.
