Annotation

In Ukraine, grain production is a leading branch of agriculture. Among the cereals, spring barley takes the third position after wheat and maize, and is of great importance in solution of grain problems because it is a valuable food, fodder and industrial crop.

The studied varieties Halychanyn and Vzirets belong to different sub-kinds, Н. vulgare (multi-row barley) and H. distichum (two-row barley) respectively, but have the same form, particularly the film one. The last fact explains that field germination of the seed of both varieties was almost the same (89.5–89.8 %) and depended only on spring weather conditions.

The variety of two-row barley Vzirets is characterized by much higher productive tillering (2,05 under a minimum seeding rate). However, one observed a clear tendency to its reduction under an increase of the seeding rate in both varieties, particularly from 2.05 to 1.49 and from 1.67 to 1.18 in the varieties Vzirets and Halychanyn respectively.

Results of the research confirm that reduction of industrial productivity of the plants of spring barley happens at a lesser degree than growth of the density of productive plant stand. It explains the fact that yield increases under the increase of seeding rate, but to some extent.

Weather conditions in the years of the experiment, particularly in the period of spring barley vegetation, made smaller impact on production of agrophytocoenosis of spring barley than the studied factors. Statistical data argue that the degree of impact of the variety on spring barley yield accounted for 26 %, seeding rate – 17 %, and weather conditions – 55 %.

For the studied varieties, the seeding rate of 3.0–3.5 million/ha of similar seed did not produce higher yield as compared to the higher seeding rates. There was no difference in the indices of yield capacity between the seeding rates of 4.0–5.0 million/ha, particularly it accounted for 6.10–6.19 t/ha in Halychanyn variety and 5.60–5.70 t/ha in Vzirets variety. The increase of the seeding rate up to 5.5 mln/ha of similar seed caused significant reduction of the yield of both varieties.
